Burlington Arboretum at Willowbrook Park
Taking a degraded stream system and turning it into an ecological and aesthetic amenity for a community: these are some of our favorite projects. They provide the opportunity to improve a stream for ecological and water quality benefits and the opportunity to educate the community on the importance of streams and water quality.
The City of Burlington, North Carolina, in conjunction with the New Leaf Society (NLS) wanted to restore Brown Branch through Willowbrook Park as the focal point of a large park renovation project. They selected EPR to implement their vision. The project required careful coordination with the City, the NLS, park architects and planners, and agencies to ensure it would meet the City and NLS’s goals, enhance the overall park design, and meet regulatory requirements. In the end, the restored Brown Branch compliments the reimagined Burlington Arboretum at Willowbrook Park and has become a place for enjoyment of nature and open spaces.
